Experiencing Scuba Diving in Andamans

We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend. Well, this quote of Robert Louis Stevenson depicts my feeling of experiencing the taste of a sweet friendship with Mother Nature underwater. I think this feeling is what made me join “adventuresome” as a content writer to share my feeling with everyone. Amongst all the places I have been to, scuba diving in Andamans, the Paradise of beaches will always remain my favorite experience which I had from my visit last year during the month of October. This was exactly what I needed after spending a month for the examinations. Well, I was really looking forward to this trip as I have heard so many stories about its eternal beauty and mostly the activities that have been practiced there.

The real motive was to experience the feeling of watching aquatic life while scuba diving, or ‘deep sea diving ‘ as it is popularly known in these parts, is a sport consisting of exploring the underwater world using Self-Containing Underwater Breathing Apparatus (S.C.U.B.A.). I had experienced my dream of having a scuba at Havelock, which is the actual heaven of the Andaman.

I was very excited and was completely ready for Scooby Booby, Scuba diving. It was just a couple of kilometers away from the parking area, Barefoot Scuba was the place, and like this one, every scuba destination kind of had their own private beaches for the tourists. My one was Beach no.3. Around 12.30 I was there and ready to experience scuba diving in Andamans for the first time. Well, the rate starts @2500 but as usual people had managed to bargain there easily. Wore my swimsuit, which was quiet annoying, and all set to go.

They make you fill a form checking in your health conditions, and if you are a regular medicine taker, you won’t be allowed, unless obviously you lie. As, I was so confused seeing so many conditions on the paper, so I asked my trainer (Krishnan) to help me; he was always being very helpful throughout the activity. So I was in the water, and our guide taught us the basics, took just 10 minutes.

All those scenes from the film “Zindagi na Milegi Dobara” were flashing, and excitement was at all time high. Boom! I went in, at first your excitement takes a backseat and your concentration in only on the equipment and if you are breathing okay or not. All those signs that Katrina in that movie demonstrates, apply everywhere. The guide at every step asks you if you’re okay.

Then after 10 or so minutes I was like okay now I am here, saw some fishes, then some more, then some more. It was starting to feel magical as the corals tends to be better in the shallows with lots of Fusiliers, Lionfish, octopus etc. and the water is very clear. You touch some particular reefs and they open and close themselves, being very sensitive. You always try and touch the fishes, but you can’t actually touch them, they run away quickly.

I saw an angel fish there, who was continuously following me, wherever I was going, it was coming with me. I felt like to take off my swim suit seeing their free movements. Saw a sea snake there, which was just entering in to a hole, I got very scared but my trainer told not to get panic as it would not cause any harm. I believe if you are good to animals then only they will be good to u or else they will harm you. I felt like that my soul was enjoying the moment and my body was floating on the water, what a feeling it was; literally can’t describe with any words or phrases; Splendid.

All the experience was beautiful, but it may not be easy for the first timers as it pains a lot in your ears if you don’t breathe properly. So a lot of time went by concentrating on the process rather than enjoying the view.

The trainers with you take your pictures inside the water and ask you to give some good poses. The time expired and I was out of the water. The experience was wonderful but from inside I wanted to do it again, so had a chat with the manager and he advised me to come at 5 in the morning if I needed to get a better experience, as the sea is calm in the morning. I had double thoughts, but said yes for the next day as well, as you never know you might be able to do this again ever in life.

I am sharing this feeling of scuba diving in Andamans not a show-off, but want to tell to everyone, that I have experienced a sweet short-lived friendship with the eternal beauty of nature and their elements. It was just an overwhelming experience of having the scuba to see the different colors of the nature.
