Great post. I would avoid not paying for historical site entry if you can, just in case they use the money to preserve the sites.
I did some hiking there a few years ago. Adam’s Peak and World’s End are well worth a visit. Really loved Sigiriya but we did get surrounded by a swarm of killer wasps. We stayed really still and quiet so remained unharmed.

  21. Sergio Roberts

    Hi Team,

This is an excellent resource that I will be referring to if and when we go to Sri Lanka. I have seen the food on a travel show and it looks right up my alley and with a price of $1 to $3 that is so affordable. The fact that English is widely spoken would make travel a lot easier. Lots of great info here in places to visit in Sri Lanka.

  23. Carlos R

Thanks a lot for that post and the huge amount of information. It will definitely help me plan places to visit and what things to do. 34. Mark Scott

Great blog team, and so true. We spent a couple of weeks in Sri Lanka last year and felt really amazing. The people were truly beautiful and always made us feel welcome wherever we were. We can’t wait to go back there one day. It’s our favorite Asian country so far.

  35. Anandita Mishra

  36. Shahid Faran

Ah I just bought a guide book about Sri Lanka. I can’t wait to explore the country my self. Thanks for sharing.

  37. Kevin Kulak

Thanks for the great writeup team! My wife and I spent a few weeks in Sri Lanka in 2017 and I can’t wait to return. The place are just as you guys said. I would add a few things that may be of interest:

    1. Their cuisine is unique and on the whole spicier than even the hottest of South Indian food.

    2. Unlike any other country in Asia, they have a flavorful beer to kill off the chiles! Lion Stout is an absolutely world-class beer (~92 points on the beer rating sites)….fond memories of raising a pint of it in Kandy.

    3. For those interested in Buddhism and/or meditation, Sri Lanka is the oldest Theravada Buddhist country (the same tradition as in Burma and Thailand but predates it by many centuries). The world-famous Buddhist Publication Society is in Kandy, and just outside of it is the fantastic Nilambe Meditation Center – one of the very few places in Asia where both men and women are welcome and where one can practice meditation and yoga on a fairly rigorous but do-able schedule without having to stick to just one technique or set of teachings.

Really appreciate your writing, as always.

  38. Martial Goni

Is November an okay time to travel to Sri Lanka? I am planning a trip from the 2nd to the 10th of November. I know its the monsoon season then but is it really bad or doable?

  43. Amisha Sharma

This is super helpful as I will go next year, I will be there for only four days and I want to see some beautiful sights but I’m not sure where I should be based. My friend thinks Colombo but I think we should be closer inland. Where do you think we should stay for a short visit?

    1. Adventuresome

      Hi Amisha,
We will suggest you to stay in Bentota.

  44. Veronica

    Hello team,

I will have a whole month next year for holidays and Sri Lanka is the place I would want to go to. So, since I will have 30 days to spare, what’s the best month to travel? I’m looking forward to hiking, the scenic train and the beach.

  48. Russel Chaffin

I have been surfing on-line more than three hours today, but I by no means discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is lovely price sufficient for me.
In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made excellent content
material as you probably did, the internet shall be a lot more useful than ever before.

  49. Maranda Cheatem

You are an inspiration for me, I also finally started my own travel blog (about European cities) about 2 months ago. I did it because I saw too many blogs that are always talking about the same cities and sometimes even give wrong information (sloppy research?). Now I have started to analyze as many travel blogs as possible (including this one) to find out which cities have been covered by other bloggers already.

  50. Kathrin Mcroberts

Great checklist, I’ll put the spotlight on your point 4. Be Niche. As a matter of fact, everybody’s talking about “going niche”. My concern is: are we not in danger of “over-niching”? Is there a possibility that we become so much focused on ONE area, that we totally miss the big picture? For example, my niche is “unique travel Experiences, of the Greek way of life”. My related products (as per point 5 above) are a set of 60+ unique tours/activities that travelers to Greece may indulge themselves into, which will help them “live like Greeks for a day”. I’m not sure if that niche is narrow enough, or too broad, but I need to keep an eye (and have an opinion) on how the travel industry is being shaped as a whole (e.g. how does terrorism affect travelling habits?). What I’m saying is: might over-niching lead to market-blindness, if we lose the big picture?

    1. Adventuresome

      Sure.
We will look into it, now that you have given us to think about niche travelling.
      Thanks for your feedback.

  51. Raymon Krompel

I’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s equally educative and amusing, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The problem is something which not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about.
I am very happy that I stumbled across this during my search for something regarding Sri Lanka.

  52. Clyde Burck

Great resource team. loved reading your blog post after searching on Google for places to visit in Sri Lanka because I am running a travel blog since 2015 and I recently started working on it again and your blog post has helped. Thanks!

  53. Wenche Jack

I appreciate these places and emailed myself this article to review later. Google must think these places are dope as well because this article is at the top of organic search results. Thanks so much! Yes, it’s a bit frustrating that there are so many travel bloggers out there, but I like your point: it’s like any other business…it doesn’t mean someone can’t do their own thing and shine.

  54. Mikaela Kampfer

Also, a lot of the time the people who comment on your blog are great at generating new information that you might never have thought about before.

  61. Sunny Woller

Great blog, thanks for sharing. I get amazed at how many travel blogs don’t give any value to reading or writing well. Storytelling is important to keep the readers hooked, and then you can happily sell the experience that you like and believe in.
